Obituary for Mary Nunley

Mary Nunley, 93, originally of Rogersville, Alabama, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Dekalb Community Hospital in Smithville, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM (CT) on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Elkins East Chapel, Killen, Alabama. The celebration service of her life will follow at 2:00 PM, also at the Elkins East Chapel. Burial will be in the Corum Family Cemetery in Lexington, Alabama, following the services.

After graduation from high school, Mary Nunley successfully completed the course of study at the Larimore Business College. Soon thereafter she met and married Frank (Red) Nunley of Grundy County, Tennessee, who during WWII was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Their marriage was spent working and raising a family in Michigan and Tennessee. She retired as an executive secretary of the Ford Motor Company after 26 ½ years of employment.

Mary Nunley was a loving wife, mother and community member.

She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Florence, Alabama, and then the First United Methodist Church in Tracy City, Tennessee. In later years Mary attended church services everywhere she lived and was fortunate to have been cared for by God’s greater community.

Survivors include her Daughter, Margaret Nunley Tepley (Steve) - of Altamont, Tennessee; Son, Frank H. Nunley, Jr. (Lynn) - of San Jose, California; Grandchildren, Jim Nunley (Kim), Frank Nunley (Sarah), Chuck Nunley (Claudia) and Caledonia Nunley Harrison; five Great Grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Mildred Corum; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Nunley; Brothers, Almon Corum, Alton (Sam) Corum, and Villard Corum; and Sisters, Lavona Corum and Evelyn Waddell.

In lieu of flowers and in Mary’s honor, memorials may be made to a favorite charity, OR pass along an act of kindness to others in need.
