Obituary for Martha Ann Truitt (Lucas)

Martha L. Truitt, 69, of Florence died Monday, May 30, 2017, at her residence.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 6-7:30 PM at Elkins Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 1, 2017, 11 AM in the Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tompkins officiating. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, Alabama.

Mrs. Truitt was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Eugene Lucas.

Mrs. Truitt was a graduate of Calera High School. She had a lifetime of service in civic and charitable organizations, most recently including Healing Place Charity Championship, and UNA Foundation Derby Day. She was a founding member of Chapeaux and a member of Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.

Mrs. Truitt is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, W. Woodrow Truitt; son, Brad C. Nichols (Helen); daughters, Toni T. Caron (Jon) and Lisa T. Forrester (Jay); grandchildren, Elaina Nichols, Corbin Nichols, Jessica Caron, Nicholas Caron, Emily Forrester, and Truitt Forrester; mother, Faye Melvin; brothers, Billy Wayne Lucas and Roger W. Lucas.

Pallbearers will be Scott Adams, Phillip Jordan, Jon Caron, Nicholas Caron, Jay Forrester, Truitt Forrester, Shayne Johnson, and Tim Williams.

Special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann and staff and Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Services Staff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The Healing Place, or St Joseph Catholic School Foundation.
