I am grieved by news of the death of my good friend, Wanda Gilmore. Wanda and I enjoyed many late-night chats and morning cups of coffee. She and I were both charter members of the Shoals Music Teachers Forum. From its beginning, Wanda was professional, inspiring, collegial, wise, friendly, gracious, and gentle. Through many personal trials, she never flagged in her enthusiastic commitment to the Forum and to Alabama Music Teachers Association. She received designation as a Nationally Certified Teacher Of Music through the Music Teachers National Association. . Her students played with the musicality and flair she had conveyed to them, as we saw and heard in her own playing. Through the years, she had several State winners and many grateful students. I cherish our personal friendship, and thank her for helping me be a better teacher. She was also a faithful and supportive customer at Ryan Piano Company, owned by my husband, Robert. He always looked forward to her visits, and was deeply grateful for her business.
