Obituary for Nancy Carolyn Quimby

Nancy Carolyn Gooch Quimby, of Florence, passed away Tuesday morning September 2, 2008 at the age of 46. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
The Celebration of Nancy’s life will be Friday, September 5 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Elkins Funeral Home, Florence with Dr. Carl Gebhardt officiating. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon at the funeral home from 1:00pm until service time.
Nancy was a 1979 graduate of Bradshaw High School and attended the University of North Alabama for 3 ½ years. She lived in Missouri City, Texas for many years where she met and married her husband, Jim Quimby. Their family grew with the addition of 3 children, Pepper, David and Jason. While living in Texas Nancy was a member and pre-school teacher at Sugarland Baptist, Sugarland, Texas. After Jim’s death on July 1, 1997 she returned to Florence and became a member of Highland Baptist Church. Nancy was a volunteer and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and worked as a Family Service Counselor at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Nancy enjoyed life and spending good times swimming at the lake with her friends. She loved music of all kinds, dancing, and working crossword puzzles. Her children, grandchildren, and family were her life. Nancy was very generous and giving; she always put others before herself.
Nancy is survived by her dad, Charles Hubert Gooch; her mother, Francis Tonita Killen and husband, Morris; her children, Pepper and Scott Carlin, David and Anna Quimby, and Jason Quimby; grandmother, Louise Kilgo; grandchildren, Charlee Elizabeth Quimby and Nancy’s expectant granddaughter, Brooke Taylor Carlin, who will be arriving soon; brother, Don and Deb Killen; sister, Debbie Gooch; uncles, Michael Gooch, Tom Kilgo; aunt, Martha Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Gale Douglass, David Lovelace, Tony Colston, Marvin Gruber, Mike Tyler and Mike Faulkner.
Honorary bearers will be Karen Gruber, Shelia Colston, Trudy Wilson, Linda Owen and Walter Owen.
Expressions of sympathy may also be made in loving memory of Nancy Carolyn Gooch Quimby to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
