Sue Douglas Thompson, 94 peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017. The family will receive friends and family in the church parlor at 12:00 prior to the service The funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 1st at FUMC with the Rev. Robert Sparkman and Dr. Sam Hardy officiating. Interment will follow at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens with Elkins Funeral Home assisting. She was a longtime resident of Florence as she moved with her family from Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1955.
Sue Thompson was the first female real estate agent in the tri-cities area and worked for K. C. Darby Real Estate Agency for over 40 years, and she also enjoyed working as a Doncaster fashion consultant for 25 years. As an active member of the First United Methodist Church, she was a long standing member of the adult choir and the William A. Graham Sunday School Class.
Sue Thompson was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, William David “Dave” Thompson in 2000 as well as four brothers and sisters: Grace Meredith (Bill), Marie Smith (Woody), Martha Morgan (Chester), and Charles Douglas. She was a loving mother to two children and found great joy spending time with their families: John David Thompson (Debbie) of Florence and Daphne Thompson Reed (Ronnie) of Huntsville; grandchildren, Sarah Catherine, Douglas (Courtney), and Wyn(Sara) Reed, step grandsons, Evan and Spencer Cantrell and great granddaughters, Lilah Cate, Sarah Beth and Ridley Reed and step great grandson, Corgan Cantrell. She is also survived by her brother Denon Douglas (Rosemary) of California, sister-in-law Jean Douglas of Mississippi and several loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at CTRU unit at ECM Hospital and Drs. McFall, Reinke, Holden and Webb. Pallbearers are: Douglas Reed, Wyn Reed, Lee Hollowell, Dan Muse, Russell Morgan, and Ricke Meredith.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Florence, the YMCA of the Shoals or a charity of your choice.
