James M.  Ransom
James Madison “Jim” Ransom, 85, of Florence passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 4,2017, beginning at 1:00 at First Christian Church of Florence, a memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Elkins Funeral home is assisting the family

Mr. Ransom was preceded in death by, his wife of over 50 years, Jackie Ransom; parents, Edward and Ella Ransom; brothers, Gene and Rogers Ransom; sister, Christine Ransom; and nephew, Bradley Ransom.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Ransom O’Bannon; his son, James Madison Ransom Jr.(Marie); and Grandson, James Madison Ransom III.

Mr. Ransom was a member at the First Christian Church of Florence. He graduated from Murray State University with a bachelor’s degree; he received his masters and PhD from University of Kentucky in agriculture economics. He served in the United States Army; he also worked for the TVA for over 40 years before retiring. Mr. Ransom served as President of the TVA Retirement Association, was on the board of the American Red Cross Florence chapter; long time member of the Optimist Club and the Quarterback Club; was an avid golfer, and loved volunteering his time as a mentor and tutor.

The Family would like to thank the staff at the Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Red Cross Florence Chapter 318 S Court St, Florence, AL 35630.
